These are just some of the images that come up when you do a search on flickr for title cards.
Ruth Scurr: Fatal Purity: Robespierre and the French Revolution
Rebecca Miller: Personal Velocity
I loved Miller's movie, but the book needed more soul to be successful for me. (***)
Daphne Du Maurier: Rebecca
Rich, atmospheric mystery that obliquely, cunningly tackles feminist issues of sex, self-esteem and power (particularly in relationships) (*****)
Margaret Drabble: Waterfall
Very internal, almost Woolfian portrait of a woman who seems impossibly cold and removed until she begins an affair with her cousin's husband (****)
Roberto Bolano: The Savage Detectives: A Novel
I hated every single thing about this book and gave up at p. 164. (*)
William Maxwell: So Long, See You Tomorrow
The narrator outlines a small town murder, then reimagines it... exactly as you would've guessed it happened in the first place. At least it was short. (*)
Kay Ryan: Say Uncle: Poems
I don't care much for poetry, but I love Kay Ryan. (****)
Kate Walbert: A Short History of Women: A Novel
This was the history of women, as told by different generations of the Townsend family. I loved 3/4 of this book, but in the end... it never seemed to amount to anything. (***)
Sarah Waters: The Little Stranger
So disappointing. (**)
Dale E. Basye: Rapacia: The Second Circle of Heck (Circles of Heck)
Another great installment in Dale's Heck series! (****)
